Soul of Travel Writing Workshop
December 4 - 11, 2007

In our commitment to “The Soul of Travel” award-winning travel journalist Judith Fein and her photographer husband Paul Ross invite you to a travel journalism retreat in the heart of the Yucatan, in Mexico, near Belize.

We will go to remote Maya archaeological sites, cook with Maya people, swim, go kayaking, get a massage, take a boat trip, enjoy breakfast and a three-course candlelight gourmet dinner each day, explore the remote tropical lagoon where the resort is located, and learn to transform all these experiences into travel articles and travel stories.

Would you like to explore and communicate your truth to others?

MORE TO COME!

A Letter to Workshop, Retreat & Other Group Leaders

We would like to invite you to explore the possibility of using Rancho Encantado for your workshop, retreat, reunion or other group this coming season. Rancho Encantado is a beautiful property on the shore of magnificent Laguna Bacalar near the border of Belize in the southern part of Quintana Roo, Mexico. We have twelve private cottages on the water, nestled among twelve acres of lushly landscaped tropical grounds with coconut palms, citrus groves, fruit trees and an abundance of flowers and birds.

Our charming lakeside palapa houses a dining room placed around a fountain and garden as well as a small gift shop featuring indigenous crafts and clothing of Mexico and Guatemala. We serve a menu of exquisitely prepared foods, including seafood, chicken and fish, often prepared in traditional Mayan dishes. An extensive variety of vegetarian fare, as well as healthy vegetable and fruit drinks, are also available. Whole grain breads, rolls and muffins are baked daily in our kitchen. Our buffet breakfasts include a variety of cereals including our own Rancho granola. Yogurt, platters of fresh fruit, and freshly squeezed orange juice offer a happy and health greeting to the day.

Our spa offers a rich array of wellness and natural beauty treatments. Our staff is highly skilled and deeply caring. Our massage hut is built out on the water and has its own dock. Enjoy a luxurious and healing treatment while the gentle rhythms of the laguna and the healing hands of our therapist soothe all tensions. Your group can also soak in our beautifully handcrafted outdoor Jacuzzi located in a secluded cove.

Groups may gather in Cathedral Maya, a soaring palapa, over fifty feet in height, located at the water’s edge. This very special space is ideal for movement, meditation, discussions and any other flavor of deep group process. A large stone altar on one end can be used for your special purposes and is adorned daily with fresh flowers.

Group rates are discounted and include the breakfast buffet and delightful full course candle lit dinner. Lunch may also be added at a minimum cost. With a minimum of twelve participants, two group leaders stay in one of our charming garden casitas at no charge.

Please give us a call or email us to inquire about reserving a space during the upcoming season. We’d be happy to answer whatever questions you might have and see what we can do to accommodate for your group. We have had many years of experience serving groups and look forward to including yours. Please visit our website for more information and pictures. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely, Mary Visarraga
